The Free Ranger has many different names, sometimes known as the Semi/Semi-Automatic, Auto-sniper or the CSG-1, these names all fall under a certain weapon class that is a relative of the sniper rifle, which, unlike the Crackshot, has 15 bullets in a magazine. The Free Ranger does less damage per shot than the Crackshot. It appears to be based on the Dragunov sniper rifle. This gun was the only sniper in the game before the Crackshot was introduced in Version 0.20.0. The two weapons are different, however, since the Crackshot is generally one-hit-kill while the Free Ranger fires multiple rounds before reloading. If you shoot very accurately and hit the very center of the egg, it is expedient to kill in one shot. However, killing a moving opponent in one shot with the Free Ranger is very rare. The Free Ranger has a relatively low recoil time, allowing it to kill an opponent in less than 2 seconds. The Free Ranger also has a much higher bloom compared to the Crackshot. Each bullet carton picks up 15 bullets.
The Free Ranger class is meant to be used for long-range combat. When aiming, the gun zooms in with a scope. This scope zooms in a further amount closer than when out of the scope, to aid in long-range shooting. It is usually used to get people low enough (85-95 damage), however, if the shot is exactly in the center it can kill the person in one shot.
This gun is one of the three original guns in Shell Shockers. When it was first added, it only had five bullets per magazine and 15 storage bullets. The gun originally could carry 15 extra bullets and could only use five bullets before reloading, but this was upgraded to 60 when the Crackshot was introduced in Version 0.20.0, as to separate the two very similar sniper guns apart from each other. The damage was also increased, and the bloom/instability of the gun was also decreased later. Over many updates, the Free Ranger's accuracy and statistics have changed many times. In Version0.39.2, the reload time was decreased and the fire rate was increased slightly. Weapon skins don't alter a player's performance in any way.
Aimbotters use this gun a lot since its long range and it can fire 15 bullets before reloading, and because aimbot locks on the center of the egg, it is usually a one shot kill. The best way to survive against these cheaters is to use a longer range weapon to take them down, as the aimbot only locks onto the closest egg. Grenades are a great way to damage them without getting hit. However the best thing to do in this situation is to click on the aimbotters name and report them.
Most of the time, you will always be left with a close-ranged shooting battle so make sure to always move to high ground
Medium-ranged shots are always the best choice; this gun has alot of bullets in its magazine so you can fire more rapidly
Having at least 2 grenades with you are a MUST due to the fact your SPS (Shots Per Second) is low.
The Free Ranger has ample ammo storage and 15 bullets per clip, so you can afford to miss. This makes bloom shots, or shots before your crosshair has completely closed in, usable for the Free Ranger. Remember, a single bullet is enough to deal lethal damage, or enough damage to the point where the Pistol or Melee can finish the job.

Before Version 0.25.5 (November 2019), when classes and guns were distinct from each other, the Free Ranger was referred to as "CSG-1" when talking about the gun itself, and "Free Ranger" only when selecting that weapon class in the menu.
It is very common to see hackers using this gun; hackers with any kind or hacks/exploits to improve/aim for the player will use this gun. Free Ranger has a magazine of 15 bullets and with aim related hacks, a hacker can kill someone without shield using one bullet, because of Free Ranger's max damage, which is 102.
It is also very common to see intermediate gamers use this gun due to its ability to damage someone from both short-range and long-range distances. It is also recommended for beginners to use this gun because there are more bullets in the gun, which means that you don't have to worry about missing and having to reload. For this reason, the Free Ranger is like a mix between Crackshot and Whipper.
